Committees

While all of the committees listed here are vital to the character and vigor of JRC, they also provide wonderful opportunities to meet other JRC members with similar interests. Some committees meet monthly, while others meet on an ad-hoc basis. As contacts are subject to change, please contact our Membership Coordinator, Barbara Israelite, with any questions.

Accessibility and Inclusion
Accessibility/Inclusion meets to respond to concerns and help facilitate ways JRC can become more sensitive and responsive to the needs of persons with disabilities. Contact: David Tabak

Adult Learning
This committee meets on an ad-hoc basis to plan, coordinate and create policy for our adult learning program. Please see our Adult Learning schedule or consult the newsletter for information regarding adult education at JRC. Contact: Dina April, dapril@jrc-evanston.org

Art/Design
Dedicated to enhancing JRC’s visual environment, Art/Design is composed of arts professionals and volunteers who ensure that the art adorning our spiritual home will be "appropriately natural, handsome and based on simple, good design."

Early Childhood Education
This committee meets to discuss issues of importance to JRC’s Early Childhood program. Members work together to determine policy and explore ways to support Preschool Education at JRC. Contact: Juliet Bromer or Carolyn Shapiro

Financial Development
This committee plans and facilitates all ongoing fundraising in support of our JRC community.

Chesed
The Hevrah (lovingkindess) committee is committed to performing mitzvot to help JRC members in need - particularly individuals/families who have experienced a recent loss or crisis. Contact: Erica Karp or Marlene Stern

High Holiday

The High Holiday Committee is an annual ad hoc committee that coordinates various aspects of our High Holiday services - from ushering to set-up to coordination of service participation. This is a highly participatory committee that plays an important ongoing role in the spiritual life of JRC. Contact: Bryna Cytrynbaum, blcytrynbaum@jrc-evanston.org

JRC Peace & Justice Dialogue

A resource and catalyst to encourage others in the greater Jewish community to add their voices to an existing group of JRC members who believe strongly that there should be a Jewish voice, grounded in Jewish values, in the peace and justice movement in the Chicago and North Shore communities. We strive to make a difference in the focus and outcome of the public debate. Although we recognize that there is no monolithic set of Jewish values, we believe that traditional sources in Judasim speak to many of the peace, justice and civil liberties issues of our time. Contact: Sallie Gratch

Landscape
The "JRC Gardeners" are a hands-on group that helps to beautify the synagogue landscape. Contact: Becky Block

Membership Committee
This committee works to enhance services to members and to help create a greater sense of community at JRC. (The web page you are now reading is one of the many important projects generated by the Membership Committee.) Contact: Judith Childrey

Ritual Practices
This committee meets to discuss and address religious issues that directly affect our community. It also endeavors to facilitate greater member involvement in religious services at JRC. Contact: Pat Lane

Religious School
This committee meets to discuss educational issues, create policy and support the work of our Religious School staff. Contact: Alisa Cohen-Stein or Diana McNelis
